Does hair really grow faster if you trim it?

my hair has started drying out at the ends and needs a cut, but i want to grow it long, how does it grow faster if you trim it. hair is dead and it wouldn't send messages to the roots saying "its been cut, quick replace it" and i doubt its got to do with the weight pulling on the roots...... and how come arm hairs and eyelashes only have a limited length they grow to... i waxed my arms once and they grew back, but they're the same length now as before. why did they stop growing. hmmmmm i wander if anyone REALLY knows the answer......!?!?!?!?!??????

it seems like trimming will induce a growth spurt in hair, that's why frequent trimming will make your hair grow faster. however, you have to understand that everyone's hair will have a dormant period which may last for quite a long period of time(i forgot how long it was). so during this dormant period, you will experience a stunt growth in your hair no matter how frequent you trim it.

as for eyelashes, i heard that if you trim it for a child, the child will grow to have longer eyelashes. but this doesnt work for adults. i have no idea why is it so as well. seems like our hair growing out from the top of our hair functions differently from other body parts.

Yes...mine is long.....and i keep it trimmed every 6 weeks....I have a myspace if you want to see.......good luck!

Trimming the ends of your hair keeps the hair follicle "healthy" (as healthy as dead can be!). It maintains moisture and strength, prevents breakage. This is what makes the hair grow slightly faster. It's not significantly faster... depending on your hair, maybe an extra 1/4" of growth after a recent trim.

With body hair, it's a little different. Your body hair gets more resistance (from clothing, rubbing up against things in the environment) which causes breakage and stunted growth. It also has to do with your genetics (how long your body hair will grow). Consider the pre-people who didn't have lots of warm clothes... they had to be hairy to help protect from the elements. Their bodies grew just enough hair to warm them, but not enough to hinder them from being mobile, catching food, building shelter, etc.

They say that it does, especially in the summer. I have Long hair and I really do not see any change in lenght as of growing after i trim it. I thought so too but when i asked my hair dresser they say that is a myth,

I really am not sure.

Hope I could help!

Yes hair will grow faster by trimming it! It cuts off the dead ends and makes your hair healthy again! The best thing I can compare it to is when you trim a plant and the new leaves grow! the dead stuff still tries to suck nutrients and the healthy stuff doesn't get as much!

Hope that helps!!

This is how it works, they are not explaining it correctly. No, trimming your ends WILL NOT make it grow FASTER. The purpose of trimming the ends is to maintain the health of the hair so that it doesn't spit all the way up and break off in the middle or completly. So, you'll have healthier strands because you cut the bad part off before it ruined the whole strand increasing the "lifespan" of the hair. Get it? You trim your hair to keep it healthier so that the new growth that you gain is added to the healthy length instead of being broken off by dry split ends. Trimming only maintains the hair. Hope this helped. As for the hair on your body, it has a purpose; such as eyelashes, they are supposed to keep crap from flying in your eyes, it they were 5 inches long then THEY would be the problem getting in your eyes. As for the rest of your body hair, we are mammals but don't require as much hair on our bodies as bears and dogs. It is only to protect the skin a keep us a little warmer.

Does hair really grow faster if you trim it?

yes just like a tree. If you cut off the dead ends or in a tree, the dead and or branches that are spouting out besides the needed ones, more nutrients go to the good hair/branches making then grow more. Also the everyday maintenance of drying, curling, and weather...

Does hair really grow faster if you trim it?

your hair doesnt literally grow faster, but you need to trim it or you will get split ends and you will need to cut off even more. in that case, even if you have long hair, it will look damaged. get your hair trimmed and prevent those split ends!!

Does hair really grow faster if you trim it?

Your logic is right hair doesn't grow faster once you cut it I will grow "slower" because it has to repalce what was cut. Only trim your hair when you get split ends and only trim enought to get ride of the split ends. As for arm hair, eyebrow, and every other hair on your body they are all controlled by one thing GENETICS. Your genetics contorl how long your hair is going to be, the color, and how fast it grows. No amount of shaving or plucking will make your hair gorw longer.

Some things you can do to make your hair more haelthy and grow "faster" are:

A. Be patient hair on average gorws 6 inches a year.Once againg this is controlled by genetcis so most of the remedies that claim they make your hair grow faster are gimmicks.

B.Eat healthy.

C. Do not Dye your hair. It damages it and makes it more prone to breakage.

D. Brush your hair as little as possible. Once you get it how you want it leave it be and brush gently.

E. Trim only the amount needed to get ride of split ends if you follow the steps above it shouldn't happen very often.

Good Luck

Use the Hair Fixer by Lorel. It will seal the split ends together so your hair looks fine. A hot oil treatment will also help the condition of your hair. A humidifier in the house will help in the winter. You will not have longer hair if you trim it compared with not cutting it.
